Innovation is one of Exegistics’ core values, and we strive to cultivate and reward our team members for the innovative ideas they put into action. Every quarter, Exegistics presents a Lightbulb Award to an employee whose idea has resulted in a clear improvement in quality, productivity, safety, or service within the company.

For the 3rd Quarter of 2018, two team members have earned the Lightbulb Award for their creative and collaborative approach to improving a customer’s delivery operations. Valerie McClanahan and Amanda Addis worked together to implement Exegistics five-step innovation method to benefit this customer:

  1. Envision

Clarifying an operation’s objectives and goals before brainstorming

  1. Engage

Creating a proactive process to generate targeted ideas that will drive new business value

  1. Evolve

Gathering early feedback to tweak and improve great ideas

  1. Evaluate

Identifying an idea that is mature enough to translate into a full business proposal

  1. Execute

Taking input from the previous steps to further develop the idea and make it a reality

The customer had changed its requirements for offloading our heavy steel product at its warehouse – which in turn altered how we needed to load the daily delivery of the company’s production steel to its production line.

McClanahan and Addis applied their professional expertise and their knowledge of the client’s day-to-day operations to this task, analyzing current processes and examining potential solutions for the challenge. Together they devised a unique way to satisfy the customer’s needs, while saving both time and money.

They developed a new type of material spacer to use when staging steel to be loaded into trucks for delivery. With this new method, we save 20 minutes every time we load a truck – reducing loading time from 30 minutes to 10 minutes for each truck. Since we deliver four to seven loads weekly, this solution saves 80 to 140 minutes every week – or between 69 and 121 hours every year. McClanahan and Addis innovation helps clear the floor of trucks more efficiently and results in significant annual savings for the customer.

Congratulations to our Q3 Lightbulb Award winners!
